Head or Neck Lumps

Concerned About A Head or Neck Lump?

Our ENT Experts Specialize in Head and Neck Growths and Masses

We evaluate growths or masses of various types that appear in the head or neck. These growths include enlarged lymph nodes, thyroid masses, parathyroid masses (which cause elevated blood calcium), salivary gland tumors, infections and congenital masses. Children can have benign congenital masses such as a thyroglossal duct cyst, or a branchial cleft cyst.

Expert Evaluations & On-site Diagnostics

An evaluation involves a complete history, a review of medications and medical problems, and a complete examination of the upper aerodigestive tract. Fiberoptic laryngoscopy is frequently part of the evaluation of the upper aerodigestive tract. Imaging studies may also be recommended as part of the evaluation.

We have the ability to perform ultrasound in the office, a tool which helps to further define a neck mass. Needle biopsies may be recommended. If necessary, the ultrasound can help guide the needle biopsy to ensure the correct tissue is being sampled.

Surgical Capabilities - Beyond the Clinic

We are trained in the surgical excision of the mass if that is recommended to assist with a definitive diagnosis, or as a definitive treatment. We also perform thyroidectomy for removal of benign and cancerous thyroid glands; parathyroidectomy for treatment of hyperparathyroidism. We excise abnormal lymph nodes, and salivary gland tumors (parotid gland and submandibular gland).
